Loredana shares why she takes on the challenge to complete 100 miles in February for cardiac care in the Mater Hospital.
“Every February, when I take on the 100 Miles challenge for Cardiac Care at The Mater Hospital, I don’t walk alone. I walk with love, memory, and purpose in every single step.
“Helping people in need has always felt natural to me, no matter what struggles they face. But heart disease touches something deeply personal in my soul. I lost my grandmother, my uncle, and a dear friend to heart attacks. Their absence changed me forever… yet their presence never truly left. When I go out to do my steps, I talk to them. I send them my love. I tell them how important they still are to me. I carry their wisdom, their advice from my childhood, and the unconditional love they gave me. Now, I feel them as my guardian angels, gently walking beside me.
“And sometimes, as if to remind me they truly are near, a white feather finds its way to me along my path. For me, that feather is a quiet sign, an angel walking with me, step by step.
“This journey is also for someone very dear to my heart who is still fighting, my Godfather. For the past three years, he has been bravely facing this battle. Even though he received care back home in Romania, distance does not weaken love. He is with me in my heart, in my thoughts, and in my prayers every day, and in every mile I walk.
“Life has taught me that helping others without expecting anything in return is one of the purest gifts we can give. It fills the heart in a way nothing else can. This challenge is not only about distance, it is about gratitude, remembrance, hope, and love in motion.
“So when I walk those miles in February, I walk for those I lost, for those still fighting, and for every heart that needs care. And for that, I am grateful every single day. 💚”
