Christmas sparkles at the Mater Hospital as Celebrity Traitor Ruth Codd flips the switch

Actress, Celebrity Traitors contestant and Mater patient Ruth Codd marks the start of the Christmas season at the Mater Hospital.

Festive magic was in the air at the Mater Hospital as actress and Celebrity Traitors contestant Ruth Codd paid a special visit to formally launch the season by switching on the Christmas tree lights in Four Masters Park. Ruth, who herself is a patient in the Mater Hospital, was joined by patients, families and staff for the special event, helping to bring the joy of Christmas to those who will spend time in hospital this month.

As we count down the days and weeks to the big day, staff in the Mater Hospital are working harder than ever to provide urgent care for patients and supporting their families who need it most. And this December, the Mater Hospital Foundation is raising vital funds to support patients in the Mater, especially those who will be too sick to go home for Christmas.

The Mater Hospital Foundation exists to give every patient, and every family that loves them, the very best care in the Mater Public Hospital. With the help of supporters across the country, the Foundation is committed to raising vital funds until exceptional care is always there, for everyone.

Mary Moorhead, Chief Executive of the Mater Hospital Foundation says, “We are so honoured today to welcome Ruth Codd to the Mater to help bring some festive cheer to our hospital. This special event is such a highlight in our calendar every year and it’s a wonderful opportunity to spread some joy and cheer for those who will spend time in hospital over the festive season. We are immensely appreciative to Ruth for taking time out of her busy schedule to be with us to switch on the Christmas tree lights and help bring the spirit of the season to the Mater.

She adds, “As you know, illness doesn’t stop at Christmas and neither do the amazing teams in our hospital, who go above and beyond to be there for patients when they need it most. This Christmas, you can stand with our patients as we continue to raise the urgent funds needed to care for the Mater’s sickest patients. By giving a special gift to our Christmas appeal or buying a ticket for our Festive €5,000 raffle, you will be giving a special gift that will help make a difference in the lives of our patients this December and beyond. I would like to take the opportunity to thank each and every individual, community and company that has helped the Mater Hospital this year, by donating, volunteering or fundraising to enhance patient care. From all of us here in the Foundation and the hospital, we wish you a Happy Christmas and a peaceful, healthy New Year.”
