When you’re dealing with aggressive breast cancers, speed and clarity matters. That’s why it was so important that the Foundation was able to invest in a third state-of-the-art mammogram machine in 2023.
Funded entirely by the generosity of people all across Ireland this new 3D Imaging Mammogram will ensure equity of care for all patients attending the Breast Health Symptomatic Unit.
Established in 2000, the Mater Hospital Breast Health Symptomatic Unit sees approximately 14,000 patients per year and diagnoses around 400 people with breast cancer.
This specially designed facility allows the unit to continue its mission to advance the quality of care delivered to women who attend the hospital with breast cancer symptoms.
Prior to this machine being funded, only two out of three machines had 3D imaging. As you can imagine, having this third state of art mammogram ensures all patients now have access to the highest level of imaging possible, improving healthcare outcomes for all.
This crucial investment in women’s health, follows on from an investment of €186k over 2021 and 2022 to upgrade facilities, making the unit a more comfortable and supportive environment for all.
