Precision liver surgery
When a patient has suffered liver damage or injury, treatment normally consists of liver repair or removing the damaged section of liver through resection or dissection.
Traditionally this treatment is carried out using a heated method, which can cause damage to some of the healthy tissue close to the area being treated.
The hospital’s surgical team had carried out research in this area and identified that there were other treatment options that could provide better patient outcomes.
With your support, we were able to provide funding of €45k to equip the hospital with the EBREJET 2 system – a specialised water jet surgical device which allows for much greater precision and tissue-selectivity in liver surgery.
As a result, patients undergoing liver dissection or resection now receive an enhanced level of care and can experience quicker recovery times, while also reducing the risk of further complications.
Improved patient recovery times can also help to free up bed spaces and allow for more surgeries to take place.
