Excellence in breast cancer care
The Mater’s Breast Health unit is one of eight National Cancer Centres in Ireland, and it receives approximately 8,000 referrals per year, with more than 400 cancers being diagnosed.
In 2022, we invested funds to support the refurbishment of this important unit, which is housed in a Georgian building on Eccles Street. After many years of use, the facilities were no longer fit-for-purpose with repairs needed to the wheelchair accessible lift, stairwell and office space for specialist breast health nurses and administration staff.
This investment of €66k from the Mater Hospital Foundation follows an investment of €120k in 2021 and has helped realise the goal of the unit to update facilities and provide a one-stop imaging and clinical breast care unit, that will enable patients to be cared for in enhanced, futureproofed surroundings.
There are a wide range of benefits resulting from the completion of this refurbishment work, including increased recovery space, a dedicated waiting room and additional clinic space for clinics.
