About the Mater Charity Shop
Opened in 1992 by Sister Gerard Egan, the Mater Charity Shop is one of the north-inner city’s most popular second-hand clothes shops. However, it’s not just fashion that brings the community in, but the shop also stocks books, vintage items, homewares and a host of other treasures.
Volunteers from the local area make sure that the highest quality ladies and gents clothes and accessories are available all-year round at reasonable prices, meaning you receive the best value for money and a wealth of bargains each and every time you shop. Every penny you spend goes towards supporting patients in the Mater Hospital, and the charity shop has a rich history of helping some very important projects.
Although the quality of goods to be found in the shop encourages people in, it’s the volunteers and warm atmosphere that makes them stay, with very many returning as keen bargain-hunters. The next time you’re in the area, or if you’re visiting a loved one in the hospital, perhaps take a walk down to Dorset Street and let your purchases make a real difference to patients in the hospital.
