Opened in 1992 by Sister Gerard Egan, the Mater Charity Shop is one of the north-inner city’s most popular second-hand clothes shops. However, it’s not just fashion that brings the community in, but the rich selection of books, vintage items, homewares and other treasures.
Volunteers from the local area ensure that the highest quality ladies and gents clothes and accessories are available all-year round at reasonable prices. Every penny you spend goes towards supporting patients in the Mater Hospital. The charity shop has a rich history of helping some very important projects.
Although the fantastic quality of goods to be found in the shop encourages people to enter, it is the the warm atmosphere and the welcoming volunteers that encourages them to stay. The next time you’re in the area, or if you’re visiting a loved one in the hospital, why not take a walk down to Dorset Street? Your purchases will help make a real difference to patients in the hospital.
If you have a wardrobe full of clothes you never wear, a cupboard of unused china, or boxes of items others could use in the attic, please consider donating them to the Mater Charity Shop.
Sister Gerard and the volunteers welcome your unwanted goods and are on-hand to find them a new home. The types of goods you can donate are:
• Good quality ladies, gents, and children clothes and shoes
• Bags and accessories
• Homewares such as china, ornaments, and pictures
• Soft furnishings such as rugs and linens
• Books and CDs, vinyl
The Mater Charity Shop is located at 17 Lower Dorset Street, Dublin 1 – less than a five-minute walk from the Mater Hospital.
Due to circumstances beyond our control the Mater Hospital Charity Shop is temporarily closed from Friday, 13th March. We will be monitoring the current situation on a daily basis. Thank you for your invaluable support and patience during this challenging time.
The charity shop is always looking for volunteers to help it run, and if you can spare even a few hours per week, it would help the team immensely. Even if you can’t find the time, perhaps you know someone who can. Please give us a call on (01) 8303482 for more information.
