October marks Breast Cancer Awareness Month – a time to reflect, take action, and stand with the thousands of women and men in Ireland whose lives are touched by breast cancer.
At the Mater Hospital, every day our doctors, nurses, and care teams meet people who are beginning a journey they never thought they’d have to take: facing tests, diagnosis, treatment, and often life-changing challenges. Far too many of these people are our family, friends, colleagues, and neighbours.
That’s why this October, we’re asking you to Go Pink. Whether it’s throwing on a fun pink wig, hosting a pink coffee morning, or dying your hair pink, every action helps raise vital funds. Together, we can ensure that breast cancer patients receive the extraordinary care they need, when they need it most.
How to get involved:
- Sign up through our iDonate link. Once you register, an online fundraising page will be automatically set up for you. Be sure to customise it!
- We’ll send out your Go Pink toolkit, containing everything you need to make your Pink Party a huge success, including FREE super stylish pink specs for you to bring even more razzle-dazzle to your event.
- Want even more goodies? We have a whole host of printable downloads & tips to make it a big success. Once you sign up, you’ll get access to our pink-tastic resources!
Ways to take part:
Fake it: Throw on your brightest shade of pink lipstick, wear a fun pink wig or paint your nails your favourite shade of pink. 💅
Bake it: Host a coffee morning with pink decorations, throw a pink-themed bake-off, or hold an afternoon tea with pink treats. 🧁
Dye it: Have a pink hair fundraiser, hold a tie-dye party, or throw a paint-along event. 🖌️🎨
How going pink will make a difference
Patients like Mary Golden see just how far the funds raised for breast cancer care in the Mater Hospital go every day.
Mary was 31, newly engaged and planning a move back to Ballina with her partner, Glenn… then a pain in her chest led to a life changing diagnosis. It turned her world upside down and her breast cancer battle began.
Mary speaks with deep gratitude about the incredible care kindness from supporters like you have provided at the Mater, the moments of profound relief in her most fragile moments:
“The nurses on the cancer ward, they’re your experts, your cheerleaders, your comforters, your shoulder to cry on. And my oral chemo nurse, Karen, works my treatment around my life.”
Mary’s journey has been touched in so many ways by the generosity of those who take part to raise vital funds for the Mater. Your kindness brings comfort, relief, and helps provide the exceptional care that is giving Mary and others living with breast cancer, the gift of precious time.
She shares, “What’s important to me now is spreading awareness and emphasising to young women how vital it is to regularly check your bits, don’t put it off, don’t ignore any signs!”
You can greatly help patients like Mary on their breast cancer journeys by taking part in Go Pink and raising incredibly important funds to support the Mater Hospital in providing exceptional breast cancer care for patients in Ireland.
There is #PowerInPink this October – so join the party. Together, we can continue to be there for breast cancer patients in the Mater when they need it most.
