Over the years the Mater Foundation has awarded grants to students to carry out research. In 2004/05 €100,000 was awarded, below is just some of the areas grants were awarded to.

Centre For Liver Disease:

  • An Investigation of Hepatitis C Virus Infection at Transcriptome level by Comparative Gene Expression Analysis
  • Expression of Human and Duodenal Iron Transport Genes in Hereditary Haemochromatosis.
  • The Role of Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in the progression of Chronic Hepatitis C virus infection
  • The use of a surrogate tissue to profile gene expression in chronic Hepatitis C infection

Department of Neurology

  • The Genetics of Parkinsons Disease in Ireland
  • Linkage Disequilibrium + Mapping of Pro-Thrombotic Genes and Inherited Susceptibility to Thrombo-Embolic Ischaemic Stroke

Department Pathology

  • Molecular Profiling of PRA, PRB and ER alpha () as an Indicator for Endocrine Therapy in Breast Cancer

Department of Surgery

  • The Role of Intestinal Fibroblasts in the Pathogenesis of Stricture Formation in Crohn’s Disease
  • Investigation of Progesterone Receptor B (PRB), Growth Arrest-Specific Gene 6 (Gas6), Beta-catenin, and the Epithelial Mesenchymal Transition (EMT) pathway as indicators of recurrence in breast cancer.
