Regular Giving
Giving regularly is the best way you can support The Mater Foundation. Monthly donations mean we have reliable income we can count on. This allows us to make long-term commitments to areas of the hospital that desperately need our future financial commitment.

Leave a Legacy
After you have thought about the needs of your family and friends, please consider leaving a donation to The Mater Foundation in your will.
By leaving a donation in your will to us, you will be providing the much-needed financial support we need to continue with our work. It is also something that everyone can do.
If you are leaving a gift to us in your will please let us know. This will help The Mater Foundation to plan for the future and also will give us the opportunity to say thank you!
There are a number of ways you can leave money to The Mater Foundation in your will: (We recommend you discuss each with your solicitor to find out which suits you best.)
- Residuary Legacy: If you would like to leave a gift from the remains of your estate after you have taken care of your family, friends and loved ones, you can bequeath the residue or part of the residue of your estate.
- Pecuniary Legacy: You may decide to leave a specific sum of money to the charity of your choice, the sum of which is determined when you make your will.
- Specific Legacy: You can also bequeath a particular item of value, for example jewellery, shares or property.
- A Codicil - even if you have already made a will and you would like to give a gift to The Mater Foundation you can ask your solicitor to add a codicil (addition) to the original will. A codicil should be witnessed and signed in the same way as your original will, and should be kept with your original will.
More information on leaving a legacy to a charity can be found from www.mylegacy.ie.

Tax Effective Giving
We can claim tax on donations of €250 or more in any one tax year from individuals. There is no upper limit on the amount that will attract relief. Tax relief is applied to these donations at the donor's marginal rate of tax. If you are a higher rate taxpayer, €250 means we can claim an additional €173 from The Revenue Commissioners, or if you pay tax at the standard rate, €250 from you means an extra €63 - all at no extra cost to you. Donations are cumulative, so a standing order of just €21 a month will bring you over the threshold. At the end of the year, we will send you the appropriate form that we need to claim back the tax.
How the tax relief is applied depends on which taxpaying category you, the donor, falls into:
- PAYE Donor
Tax relief is applied at the marginal rate and is paid directly by the Revenue Commissioners to the eligible charity or approved body, on receipt of the relevant appropriate certificate. - Self-assessment Donor
Individual taxpayers (on self-assessment) benefit directly from relief at the marginal rate, by claiming the donation as a tax-deductible expense. - Corporate Donor
Corporate donors simply claim a deduction for the donation as if it were a trading expense. This applies to donations over €250.
