Ciara's Story
The Mater Hospital has a very special place in the heart of Ciara Ebbs who has chosen to sponsor May 10th.
When Ciara was a teenager she was diagnosed with a rare tumour on her spine. Her condition was so serious it was thought that she wouldn't survive to see her next birthday.
Now in remission Ciara says,
I feel privileged to have endured some of the most difficult times I have ever experienced in The Mater. Despite the heartache the pain and the tears I still look back with fond memories of my time there. The people who helped put me back together in more than just the physical sense, have grown to be dear friends of mine and are the extraordinary people in this ordinary looking place...
Ciara chose May 10th because, as she says:
Every year on my birthday I remember how lucky I am to be alive because I wasn't expected to see my 22nd birthday (in 2005!) and I did! So I always actually think just how lucky I am!
